Renewables and Clean Energy

The reduction of carbon emissions is a target for many countries globally and this has led to renewable energy sources such as solar, offshore wind, hydro biomass and biofuels becoming essential for the transition to clean energy. According the International Energy Agency (IEA) 2022 World Energy Outlook, Solar PV capacity additions expanded from 151 gigawatts (GW) in 2021 to 370 GW in 2030 and almost 600 GW in 2050, while wind capacity additions double to 210 GW in 2030 and rise to 275 GW in 2050. All these factors will require legal and business advisers with knowledge of the industry.

We advise on the entire value chain of these projects, from licensing, contracting, construction, financing, operation, maintenance and eventually their disposal.

Green and Blue Hydrogen

Green and Blue hydrogen are emerging as clean and sustainable sources of energy that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Hydrogen fuels can be used to power various sectors, such as transportation, industry and electricity generation and can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Namibia’s world-class solar and wind resources give Namibia a long-term competitive advantage in producing green hydrogen. Through its Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy, Namibia is looking to develop four hydrogen-derivative products for export: ammonia, methanol, e-kerosene, and green hydrogen-based hot briquetted iron (HBI). At SNC Incorporated, we understand the risks and legal developments affecting the production of green and blue hydrogen in Namibia. In the absence of an enabling regulatory framework for hydrogen production on, our lawyers are equipped with the local knowledge and laws of Namibia and are well positioned to advise our clients on the existing legislative landscape that applies more generally on the green and blue hydrogen value chain. We advise and provide legal and business advisory services on the following:
